This position is located in the Editing Section, English Translation and Editorial Service, Documentation Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), in New York. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Chief of the Editing Section.

工作內(nèi)容

Within delegated authority, the Editor is responsible for the following duties:

?Edits complex or politically sensitive material, normally without revision, to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policy and practice.
?Carries out more extensive editing where required, including rewriting, abridging and restructuring texts for greater readability and better logical sequence.
?Consults with author departments and carries out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors.
?Produces the master copy of a text to be followed by a multilingual team of editors.
?Acts as head of team, organizing its work, determining and enforcing deadlines and providing guidance to its members.
?Assists in drawing up guidelines for editors and in determining desk-top publishing standards and practices.
?Serves as focal point for issues relating to information technology. Provides advice to staff and management on the use of information technology
?Programmes daily and long-term work of the Section.
?Trains junior or short-term editors and revises their work.
?Assists staff of substantive units and delegations with the drafting of documentation and provides advice on matters concerning editorial policy and practice.
?Acts for the head of office or group in his or her absence.
?Performs other related duties as required.

專(zhuān)業(yè)要求

A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required. Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers/Proofreaders/Production Editors or relevant United Nations language competitive examinations held before 2017.

工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)

A minimum of five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing is required.
Out of the aforementioned five (5) years, three (3) years of experience working within a multilingual setting is desirable.
Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is required.

Fluency in English, which must be the candidate's main language, and knowledge of at least two other official languages as tested by the relevant United Nations language competitive examination

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
