The post is located in the Engineering Unit, Facilities Management Section, Central Support Services, Division of Administration at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The Engineer reports to the Chief, Engineering Unit.
工作內(nèi)容
Under the supervision of the Chief, Engineering Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Operations:
-Receives requests from all the clients relating to the technical audiovisual needs required by the conferences organizer or any other event.
-Identifies and clarifies with the client the real needs and determines the appropriate solutions which he entrusts the implementation to his team.
-Provides, as necessary, the interface with other technical stakeholders of UNOG (Division of Conference Management (DCM), Information Service, Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS).
-Writes and/or participates in the drafting of the specifications for the purchase of services or goods in his field.
-Plans resources at his disposal, in personnel and equipment.
-Keeps computer tracking of mobile equipment movements and installations.
-Produces statistics on the use of equipment.
-Produces statistics and reports on the technical problems that have occurred in conference rooms, the reasons and causes, the time of intervention and the costs for the organization.
-Manages, with the assistance of the supervisor in charge of the operators, the external companies that provide manpower to operate the UNOG facilities.
-Finds solutions to the varied demands of customers.
Maintenance and development:
-Organizes and schedules preventive maintenance of sound systems, simultaneous interpretation systems, recording systems, audio-visual systems, telephone-listening system for conferences, measuring devices, audio connection necessary for listening to conferences of the Palais des Nations and its annexes by telephone.
-Oversees repairs and maintenance actions undertaken by the team and defines appropriate corrective actions.
-Manages external companies that provide audiovisual services and equipment to ensure the maintenance, repair and replacement of audiovisual installations.
-Provides technical and logistical support to the staff of the sub-unit.
-Writes and/or participates in the drafting of the specifications for replacement, renovation, new installations projects such as sound systems, simultaneous interpretation systems, recording systems, audio-visual systems, telephone-listening system for conferences, measuring devices, audio connection necessary for listening to conferences.
-Suggests, organizes and implements with his team, the actions to improvement the audiovisual installations which will allow to increase the life of the installations, to improve their availability and to adapt them to the changing needs of the customers.
-Participates in investment projects and provides technical expertise.
Management:
-Defines the objectives of each team member, establishes a periodic review of the results, maintains and develops a harmonious communication between the members of the team, evaluates his staff, supports his staff, establishes a training plan with each member of his team, undertakes any action allowing each staff member of his team to make the best contribution to the objectives of the section.
-Ensures the quality of the services provided by his team, and engages, as necessary, the relevant corrective actions
-Supervises the activity of the technical supervisor and of the supervisor in charge of the operators, replaces them during their absences if necessary, and maintains with them a computer tool to manage and monitor the activities of the teams.
Administration:
-Carries out all administrative tasks related to the monitoring of his team and requests for services and equipment from external vendors.
-Monitors the expenses of the sub-unit.
-Prepares, with the technical supervisor and the supervisor in charge of the operators, the information necessary for the billing of the services of the team and communicates them to the right entity.
-Responsible for tracking costs to be billed to the customer for his/her sub-unit on extra budgetary clients and billable events.
-Responsible for the monitoring of capital goods under his responsibility.
Carries out all other tasks related to the functions entrusted to him by his supervisor.

專業(yè)要求
Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in audiovisual engineering, multimedia engineering, electronic engineering or other related fields. A first-level university degree in one of the fields listed above in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in audiovisual engineering or related area is required. Experience in the maintenance and operation of audiovisual equipment and systems for conference rooms is desirable. Experience in organizing and managing teams to maintain and operate conference rooms is desirable. Experience in the maintenance and operation of simultaneous interpreting systems for conference rooms is desirable. Experience with simultaneous interpreting systems and equipment manufactured by TELEVIC, TAIDEN or BOSCH systems would be an asset. Experience managing a team of more than 10 people would also be an asset.
語(yǔ)言要求
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
