The appointment is limited to the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals. Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Extension of the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the Secretariat, UN Staff Members serve on assignment or secondment from their parent department/office if selected. Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and mandates.

This position is located in the Office of the President of the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) (Arusha Branch). The incumbent will work under the guidance of the President and will report to the Chef de Cabinet.

工作內(nèi)容

The Legal Officer is responsible for providing legal support with respect to the mandated residual functions, including drafting and reviewing orders and decisions; analyzing relevant law, rules and policies; advising the President on the issues and applicable law; and drafting reports, policies, speeches, correspondence and talking points. The incumbent will further support the President and Chef de Cabinet by assisting with the direction and management of the office, including helping to supervise the staff of the Office of the President.

專(zhuān)業(yè)要求

Advanced university degree in law, preferably with specialization in international, criminal or humanitarian law. A first level university degree in law in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)

Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional legal experience, at either the national or international level, with experience in criminal law, international law or humanitarian law. Previous experience with the ad hoc Tribunals is highly desirable.

語(yǔ)言要求

English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required, and working knowledge of French is highly desirable.
