This position is located primarily in News Section I (English), of the News and Content Branch, of the Department of Public Information (DPI). The UN News Services Section I produces daily news coverage of United Nations activities system-wide through the United Nations News Service by continuously updating news stories on the United Nations web site and distributing, to media and others around the world, news and related materials via e-mail, including news digests and alerts and texts of important speeches, statements and resolutions; maintenance and enhancement of the United Nations News Centre and the Secretary-General's web site including links to audio; photo and video news sources; direct outreach to media in all regions, including the organization of briefings programmes for journalists with senior United Nations officials; communicates the Secretary-General's message directly through op-eds placed worldwide, and the production of regular analytical reviews of trends in media reporting and commentary on the United Nations, and its accounts of United Nations-related issues, for the Secretary-General and senior United Nations officials. Incumbent reports to the Chief of Section, a senior Public Information Officer.

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties:
?Ensures implementation of information programs to publicize priority issues and/or major events, to include drafting information strategies, coordinating efforts, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome.
?Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion and press, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on appropriate action/responses and measures the success of digital platform strategies for news video content.
?Undertakes activities to promote media coverage (e.g. press conferences, interviews, press seminars and other special activities) of priority issues and/or major events, to include development of a media strategy and action plan, initiating pro-active media outreach efforts, proposing and arranging press conferences/media coverage, disseminating materials and consulting with press on approach/story angle and other information requests, undertaking appropriate follow-up action and analyzing and reporting on the impact of coverage. Works in close collaboration with social media teams in NMD to develop suitable content for social media platforms.
?Produces or oversees production of a specific type or types of information communications products, in close collaboration with news editors, produces, films and edits short-form news video and feature products of varying length, including "explainer" videos and interview videos, for placement on online and social media platforms and cuts own existing news video reports to varying lengths (re-scripts and re-edits); contributes ideas for enhanced news video coverage for both broadcast and the web that directly relate to UN priorities.
?Conducts research work on UN news topics for UN News productions and co-productions; in consultation with the Chief of Section and others, oversees post-production and editing of video products
?Writes content and approach of video treatments and scripts for news and feature stories.
?Prepares budgets and plans for overseas news coverage; undertakes any other assignments given.
?Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key constituencies.
?Acts as focal point on specific issues, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, etc.
?Participates in selecting the information transmitted to key constituencies.
?Provides guidance to, and may supervise, more junior staff.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
工作經(jīng)驗
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. Experience in shooting and producing daily news videos within the news cycle, short explainer videos and short feature interview videos is required. Experience drafting and writing news and feature stories for online portals to multiple daily deadlines, required. Experience monitoring and analyzing media trends and drafting media analysis desirable. Experience managing a small multimedia news video team desirable. Experience in creating news video material for social media platforms desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
