Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.

These positions are located in the English Interpretation Section, Interpretation Service, Division of Conference Management, United Nations Office at Geneva.

工作內(nèi)容

Under the broad supervision of the Chief, English Interpretation Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

? Provides interpretation into English of speeches or statements given in French and Russian or Spanish.
? Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours.
? May be assigned to sensitive meetings; routinely functions as team leader of all interpreters assigned to the same meeting.
? May assist in the screening, training and examining of prospective English interpreters.
? May provide guidance and coaching to junior interpreters.
? May be called upon to serve as Chief Interpreter on missions.
? May also be called upon to function as Programming Officer.

專業(yè)要求

A first level degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status is required. A Master's degree is desirable. Must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Interpreters.

工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)

At least five years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations, three of which would preferably have been within the United Nations Common System.

語(yǔ)言要求

A perfect command of English and an excellent knowledge of French and Spanish or Russian are required. Proven ability to interpret from or into other United Nations official languages will be an asset.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
